Variant Types
Uploaded audio in ADN is processed into variants—different formats, qualities, previews, waveforms, and more—based on what you set up.
Examples for using variants
- Normalize audio — Ensure playback formats are consistent across tracks no matter what is uploaded.
- Create low-bandwidth versions — Deliver smaller files for listeners on poor connections.
- Monetize content — Offer free previews or low-quality clips while keeping full quality gated.
- Custom waveforms for players — Generate analysis data, images, or animations for player UIs.
- Cheaper storage — Store compressed, even voice-optimized formats while keeping originals safe.
- Multiple formats for sales/downloads — Provide different codecs or bitrates for customers.
Transcoded Version
Convert your audio file into another format with customizable quality and settings.
Variant Options
- Codec Type — choose the output format (e.g., MP3, AAC, Opus).
- Bitrate — define quality and file size (e.g., 128 kbps vs. 320 kbps).
- Stereo vs. Mono — downmix to mono for smaller files or keep stereo for fidelity.
- Strip Metadata — remove embedded tags (artist, album, etc.) if not needed.
Preview Clip
Generate short, clipped previews automatically based on your rules—perfect for 'try before you buy' scenarios.
Variant Options
- Preview Length Type — fixed time or percentage of the track.
- Preview Length — set exact duration for the preview (e.g., 30s).
- Minimum Percentage — ensure a minimum portion of the track is included.
- Maximum Percentage — cap how much of the track can be previewed.
- Start Position — specify where the preview begins.
- All Transcode Options — inherit encoding options from the Transcoded Version.
Audio Analysis
Generates detailed track insights for powering waveforms, visualizations, and audio metrics.
Variant Options
- Number of Samples — resolution of the waveform (more samples = more detail).
- Analysis Metric — define what's measured (e.g., RMS, peak, loudness).
Waveform Video
Creates an animated waveform video with customizable styling and optional embedded audio.
Variant Options
- Video Width — set output width in pixels.
- Video Height — set output height in pixels.
- Video Frame Rate — define smoothness of the animation.
- Video Background Color — background fill color.
- Waveform Line Color — color of the waveform line.
- Include Audio? — choose whether to embed the track's audio in the video.
- All Transcode Options (if including audio) — apply audio format settings.
Waveform Image
Creates a static waveform graphic—great for scrubbing bars or artwork overlays.
Note: Images are produced as PNG files with transparent backgrounds.
Variant Options
- Image Width — pixel width of the output image.
- Image Height — pixel height of the output image.
- Waveform Line Color — color of the waveform trace.
Original Upload
The original uploaded audio file, kept for reference or for regenerating new variants later.
Note: If deleted, you won't be able to generate new variants. We recommend keeping originals until you're sure they're not needed.
Cover Image
Extracts an embedded cover image from the audio file and generates theme colors automatically.
Note: All files are scanned for embedded cover art and theme colors. You can override these at the organization or collection level.
